A Notary Public, also known as a Notarial Officer, is an impartial witness commissioned and authorized by the government (in this case, the State of New Jersey) to perform notarial acts, certify the identities of a signer(s), and notarize their signature(s). A Notary Public in the State of New Jersey is authorized by the state to perform four types of notarial acts. These acts are taking acknowledgments, administering verification on oaths or affirmations (jurats), witnessing signatures, and certifying copies of records. These acts are certified and evidenced on an official notarial certificate that is required by law to be attached to the document being notarized. These same acts are then recorded in the Notarial Officer’s record book to be held as evidence if a document signing is called into question. A document with a signer’s signature can only be notarized with an official notarial certificate containing the signature of the Notary Public and the Notary Public’s official notarial seal.

Please have ready all documents that needs to be notarized. Also have ready a government issued photo ID that is expired no more that three (3) years from the issue date. Your identity will be check and must be vertified.

Before scheduling an appointment, you should already know the type of notarization needed for your document. Most documents should already come with a notarial certificate. You can check the last page of the document to find out the type of notarization needed. The title of that certificate may be an “Acknowledgment Certificate,” a “Verification on Oath or Affirmation Certificate,” a “Jurat Certificate,” a “Certification of Record Certificate,” a “Signature Witnessing Certificate,” or some other variation of wording. If your document does not have a certificate or if you would like to learn more about certificates, please see the “Notarial Services” page for more information on the type of notarization you may need. If you are still unsure, please reach out to the issuing body (such as a government agency or organization) or an attorney or representative to inquire about the type of notarization you need. If you still need clarification, please reach out to Shane directly to lead you through the necessary steps to find that information.

Yes, I can notarize more than one copy of the exact same document as long as that document is an original document and all signatures on said document are original wet handwritten signatures.

Yes, as a Notary Public, I can notarize your signature if a party to the document is not present. Please keep in mind that your signature will be the ONLY signature I will be notarizing and NOT the other party’s signature on the document. The records I keep within my notarial logbook and within the attached notarial certificate will reflect such facts and may be used as evidence on the record. Therefore, if the document you need notarized requires all party’s signatures to be notarized, I strongly recommend that all parties be present before me for the notarization. Having all parties present in the first meeting will help to save time and prevent you from seeking a new notarization just for all parties to the document.
